When Karma Sleeps ..... will rock you wide awake!

When Cape Town Music Scene starting looking for a first band to interview/feature on our page, one band stood out , by letting us know it IS going to be them. I must admit, I have heard of them before, but knew very little, except that I have heard the name a couple of times on radio, tv and have the name on Facebook, and so on. I knew one thing straight away - they had a good following, with dedicated fans, who did not stop writing on Cape Town Music Scene's wall, asking us to make them the first featured band. So here we are - When Karma Sleeps. If you were also in the dark about who they are - after this article you will know.

When Karma Sleeps was formed in 2006, as a 5 piece multicultural rock band, with a female vocalist, two guitarists, a bassist and of course, never forget the drummer (dont know if it is true for When Karma Sleeps but drummers like attention), all of them full of talent. In the last 5 years, they have shared the stage with Jimmy Eats World and Groove Armada at Oppikoppi 2007 and played 2009 KKNK with bands such as Van Coke Kartel, aKing and many more! They also played FROCK 2009 alongside Taxi Violence, Crash Car Burn , the Dirty Skirts and The Parlotones.

In 2010 When Karma Sleeps were invited to play at Synergy Music Festival, which also featured The Rudimentals, Flash Republic and Prime Circle. They ended of 2010 playing at Rock The River, SA's biggest New Years rock festival. So far in 2011 they have supported Seven Year Kismet on their tour to SA from the UK, and will be playing Rock The River Easter Fest, this coming weekend, 22-24 April 2011. They will be on at Saturday 23 April at 23:00, just before Taxi Violence. If you are attending Rock The River Easter Beast, be sure to catch them. Remember, 23:00! When Karma Sleeps are currently busy recording two new singles, to follow up the succes they had with their first single, Anything, that was released April 2010. Anything received airplay on 5FM, KFM, Highveld Stereo and Tuks FM. The video to Anything got played a lot on MK, and that was followed by interviews on KFM, Matie FM and UCT radio. When Karma Sleeps are currently signed  with South African & Canadian management company MOB Entertainment.

Now you know about the band - but you still don't know who they are. Well, here is the rundown....
(They described each other as super heroes - pics to follow!)

Lets start with the drummer (just in case). - Matthew aka Juggernaut
Matthew is a 21 year old student at UCT and a computer freak, and he loves St. Elmos Rock 'n Roll Pizza

KB, aka Batman, is one of the guitarists.
He is 22 years old, and a qualified sound engineer, and loves junk food

Then we have Gerard, the bassist, a 23 year old financial consultant - better known as The Joker. He loves a spicy KFC bucket shared between band members on mini loaves.

Next up is Greg, the 23 year old, calamari eating, lead guitar playing, assistant accountant - aka Ice Man

Lastly we have Megan, 23 yeard old graphic designer, song writer and lover of Chinese food and chocolates - just like Wonder Woman!

From what I have gathered from what the different members had to say, they definitely like The Narrow, like knives and Isochronous. There are many others, but those are the ones most mentioned. Internationally, We Came as Romans stood out! When Karma Sleeps are a laid back, friendly group of guys (and girl!) , and I think if you haven't seen them live yet, make an effort to do so. They would like your feedback on their performances, and will keep on pushing the boundaries of their own, and SA music. I (Cape Town Music Scene) also gathered from what they had to say, that they feel local music does not get the support it needs. They also feel the scene in Johannesburg is better supported (and I have heard that a lot over the last couple of months from different people). So come on Cape Town, get out there and support your own!

Cape Town Music Scene would like to thank When Karma Sleeps for the support they have shown towards the page so far! http://www.facebook.com/capetownmusicscene
